It is quite literally possible to do so at the moment, thanks to the Arctic weather conditions that are blowing right across the UK. We had the first wave of snow before Christmas, and now we have started 2010 with another deluge of the white stuff. There doesn’t look to be any let up either.
If you enjoy skiing you might want to get your skis out now and make the most of the opportunity to ski close to where you live. But if the temptation to try this out becomes too much to resist, make sure you are as safe as possible and you consider your surroundings before you try it.
It’s better for people who are living in the country than anywhere else. It could make the difference between being able to navigate the country lanes to reach the shops or not getting out at all.
But one of the downsides of the bad weather has been the trouble in getting away if you have any kind of holiday planned. Many flights have been grounded or cancelled over the past few days in the first full week of January, and it looks set to continue in the same vein as well. This will no doubt prevent some people who have skiing holidays booked from actually taking off for their destination. Ironic considering it is due to the severity of the snow at home.
One good thing is the possibility of getting plenty of wear out of your ski clothes at the moment. Many people are not venturing out unless they really have to. But if you do need to go out to get some food it is a good idea to wrap up warm and wear waterproof boots and ski clothing. It is designed to keep you warm and protect you from the occasional slip or fall a bit as well, and with the amount of ice and snow around it will certainly come in handy.
No one quite knows how long this British winter will last. Some forecasters have said we have another two weeks of it at least. Some have speculated that it could last longer still. But no matter how long we have to endure the dropping temperatures and the snow and ice, those who enjoy skiing at least have the clothing to help them withstand the bitterly cold conditions. If that includes you, be sure you make the most of it!
