Skiing in England? Surely it can’t be possible.
But despite what you might think, it is perfectly possible to get out and about and practice your skiing skills without going abroad to do it. England is full of skiing potential if you know where to look, and it can be a great opportunity for you to try it out if you have never done so before.
Of course unless we have a particularly bitter winter there isn’t much chance of being able to ski on real snow. But there are plenty of artificial ski slopes available, and they give you a great chance to get your techniques in shape during the summer months. And when winter comes and the skiing season in Europe and beyond starts in earnest, you’ll be able to take to the real slopes with real confidence.
If you are really lucky you might hit some snow in certain areas heading towards the north of England though. Keep an eye on Cumbria and Northumberland in particular, as they stand the best chance of a covering and they are set up to handle potential skiing opportunities.
But if it is ski slopes you are going to rely on, there are dozens of them evenly spread throughout England. For example, there is the Bromley Ski Centre in Kent, which offers lessons right through the year and a main slope that extends to 120 metres.
The SnowDome at Tamworth in Staffordshire is another good bet if you live in the area. This one is particularly worth a visit since it offers real snow to get to grips with. Down in Dorset meanwhile, there is the Dorset Snowsport Centre to enjoy. This has more than one slope and there is a special area designed especially for beginners, so don’t be shy if you don’t know what you are doing!
Further down in the south west of the country, there is the Plymouth Ski Centre. This also benefits from having a toboggan run and Sno-tubes, so if skiing isn’t enough for you there is plenty more to do here.
Moving up to Lancashire there is the Ski Rossendale centre. This caters for both beginners and those who are a little more experienced. As such they have a wide range of lessons that will prove to be ideal for most visitors.
The attractively named Knockhatch Ski and Snowboard Centre in Hailsham has a great slope and reasonable prices to use it. They also offer a taster lesson if you want to see whether or not you will like skiing, as well as more in depth courses for when you decide you do!
In short, there are plenty of places you can go to make the most of skiing in England. You might not be able to practice on real snow, but you can practice your skills and get yourself ready for your next holiday to the real slopes. No matter where you live you’ll be bound to have a slope nearby, so why not look for one now?
