Are
This is an all round resort that appeals to many Europeans. As such you can expect to find it very busy during the height of the skiing season. It is also the biggest ski resort in the country.
One of the best things about Are is that it is a good bet for all types and abilities of skier. You will feel equally at home here whether you are an expert or you are just getting on your feet – and your skis – for the first time. You can also enjoy the good atmosphere and friendly nature of the people who live here all year round.
With ninety runs in total you will be more than kept occupied for the length of your stay. The piste extends to nearly one hundred kilometres. And if you want to try your hand at snowboarding in the evenings, you can do just that by taking your board out to the snowboard park.
Riksgransen
You’re getting very close to the Arctic Circle when you visit Riksgransen for a spot of skiing. As such you will get the added bonus of hopefully seeing the Northern Lights, as well as exploring the many trails and slopes that await skiers of more advanced abilities.
The resort is also ideal if you don’t like the commercialised and crowded feel of many other more famous destinations. Its northerly position helps to make this possible, as well as the tiny almost non-existent nature of its status as a town.
It’s not the place to go if you are trying out skiing for the first time, however those with a little knowledge will be able to put it to the test in very unique surroundings. And of course its position also affords it a rather more generous portion of the sun, so you can quite happily ski into the evening without it getting dark.
