Banff

Banff enjoys a prime position nestled at the foot of several large mountains. As such it provides plenty of opportunities for keen skiers to explore Lake Louise and Norquay among others. And for the best snow you could hope for, make sure you don’t miss the Sunshine Village.

Despite the fact that the area is understandably very busy, you won’t have to queue for very long. This is all thanks to the efficiency that the resort is run with. There are also plenty of buses which link all the different areas together, so while you are spoilt for choice you won’t have any trouble getting to where you want to go. Just make sure you have a sleeve for your skis, so they will have as safe a journey as you will.

The other advantage of this area is that it has something to offer for everyone. You can ski for the very first time here if you wish.

Lake Tahoe

The freshwater Lake Tahoe is one of the best locations in America to head to if you want to go skiing. Its alpine nature and the fact that there are mountains crowding round it at every point make it a Mecca for skiers from all over the world.

The ski resorts – and there are plenty of them – are located on the north and south sides of the lake itself. There is no real preference to location depending on your prowess as a skier – all the resorts have runs that are suitable for different abilities.

The main resort on the north side is the Squaw Valley. This has the largest number of runs, getting towards two hundred in all. The south side of the lake has resorts which offer less in the way of ski runs, but there is still much to be enjoyed here. And with the classic après ski available for after hours, you won’t be short of things to do in the evening either.

Mammoth Mountain

It’s a dramatic name for a dramatic ski resort, nestled in the Inyo National Forest, which is situated in California. And you’ve got far more than just regular ski runs to try out here – there is an amazing opportunity to explore the area through cross country skiing too.

The ski school is ready and waiting to teach everyone who chooses this stunning location to have a bash at skiing for the first time. But there is much to be enjoyed here by skiers of all standards.

And if you are looking for somewhere to go that provides plenty to do once you’re heading back to your hotel after a day’s hard skiing, you won’t be disappointed with Mammoth Mountain. You can enjoy your pick of the restaurants nearby, as well as browsing round the town. There’s even a ski museum for the real die-hards. In short, this area has everything you could want from a skiing holiday.

New England

This area of America covers a total of six states, and it offers great potential for skiers of all kinds. Maine alone offers fourteen different ski areas to head to, Big Rock and Black Mountain being just two of them. There are a further fourteen in New Hampshire, with plenty of other ski resorts dotted around the remaining four states.

In short then, whatever you want from a skiing holiday you’ll certainly be able to find it in New England. As you would expect, none of the resorts are that far apart, so if you are heading to the area it’s not out of the question to try out more than one.

Check out the facilities in the area of your choice before you book anything though; you might find that one resort suits you better than another one. This is what makes New England so appealing – you are virtually guaranteed to find a resort that will appeal.

Tremblant

Mont Tremblant in Canada offers a French speaking location with many grand Canadian views. When you discover that this skiing area has won awards for what it can offer, you might just want to check your passport is still in date.

The mountain itself can be skied down on all four sides, offering plenty of opportunities for everyone to find some trails that suit their abilities. And when the sun goes down and it’s time to enjoy the nightlife, you’ll find plenty of it at the Place St Bernard, among others.

You won’t go hungry during a holiday at Mont Tremblant either. All tastes are catered for at the local restaurants, where meals and snacks are provided throughout the day and well into the evening. But perhaps the best treat of all is the view reserved for all skiers from any side of the mountain itself. That alone is worth the trip.
